About the project. The project is for Ukrainian children who were forced to flee abroad due to the russian full-scale invasion. It is designed to help maintain a connection with the homeland. “Stay with Ukraine” are “live” online lessons that last an hour. The Ukrainian studies component contains three blocks: Ukrainian language, literature, and history of Ukraine. Classes take place in two formats — weekday evenings and Saturdays, so as not to interfere with the main classes of children in local schools. Methodical professional teachers have developed balanced programs to assimilate the necessary material quickly.
On the one hand, the program preserves all the key topics for studying the subjects; on the other hand, the number of study hours is shortened. Four tests are planned during the academic year to monitor children’s educational progress and receive teacher feedback. They are not mandatory.
More than 1,700 children have joined the 2023-2024 school year. These are 80 groups. And a team of 53 teachers.
- The school year lasted for 9 months and involved studying the Ukrainian Language, Literature, and History. Children had the ability to gain knowledge in terms of the approved Ukrainian School program, which was optimized and contained 33 hours per subject.
- There were 80 groups from the 5th to the 11th grades. The lessons were organized in Zoom. Additionally, each teacher had his/her folder with all the materials according to the theme for each lesson, so children had the ability to look through the material once more after each lesson.
- There were 4 tests from each subject during the studying process, and more than 60% of all children passed all 4 tests. The average percentage of high-level scores is 30% or more, with positive visible dynamics in some grades on different subjects.
- Additionally, some children and their parents were involved in a psychological individual support program. To be exact, 21 children, together with their parents, took part in this program and spent 10 hours individually with a psychologist.
Goal. The project is designed to enable Ukrainian temporary relocated abroad students of grades 5-11 to keep in touch with Ukraine and the education system. Students will receive basic knowledge of the three subjects of the Ukrainian component, which is not possible to study abroad — the program aims to simplify children’s return to learning in Ukrainian schools.
